Our distinctive Cognitive Science of Language program merges psychological research on mental processes with linguistic studies. Cognitive Science, a psychological discipline, explores mental functions like emotion, memory, creativity, and language processing. Meanwhile, Linguistics analyzes language in all its aspects, covering natural language acquisition, structure, and application. McMaster University combines these fields into a one-of-a-kind undergraduate offering: Cognitive Science of Language.
This interdisciplinary program explores language representation and processing through functional and neurobiological lenses, studying speech production, comprehension, and literacy skills across different ages in both native and additional languages.
The curriculum also investigates typical and atypical language development, encompassing both developmental conditions and language impairments resulting from strokes or neurological trauma.
