The Arts & Science Program emphasizes hands-on, independent, and collaborative learning, focusing on social consciousness and cultivating versatile skills. With an intentional cap of 70 first-year students, our Program maintains an intimate scale. This deliberate size fosters strong academic and personal connections among students, while smaller classes and tutorials encourage dynamic engagement between faculty and learners.
For the B.Arts Sc. Honours degree, students complete tailored ARTSSCI courses alongside electives. These electives can be used to pursue a Combined Honours Program (pairing Arts & Science with over thirty University subjects), specialize in a specific field (through a minor), or explore diverse interests.
The core curriculum, designed exclusively for Arts & Science students, features Inquiry courses spanning multiple disciplines and emphasizing problem-solving and analytical abilities. Our distinguished faculty, including numerous teaching award recipients, continuously pioneer innovative approaches in undergraduate education. These instructors, with their varied academic backgrounds, collaborate closely with students in interdisciplinary exploration.
Through electives, hands-on learning opportunities, and study abroad programs, students can chart unique educational journeys. Senior thesis projects and independent study options enable collaboration with McMaster researchers University-wide. Cooperative initiatives like the Artsci Student Scholars Program, McMaster Discovery Program, Common Reading Program, and New World of Work Forum further enrich the learning experience.
The Program equips graduates for diverse future paths, consistently producing alumni who excel in an extraordinary range of impactful careers.
