To become a teacher in Ontario's public school system, candidates must obtain a Bachelor of Education from a university approved by the Ontario College of Teachers. This credential opens doors to teaching positions not only across Canada but internationally as well. Laurentian University's English School of Education stands among the select Ontario institutions providing a concurrent B.Ed. program. Participants begin with a 4-year bachelor's degree while simultaneously completing education coursework, workshops, and practicum placements in schools throughout the province. This five-year integrated approach exposes students to diverse learning environments, helping them determine if teaching aligns with their career aspirations. Students who decide to withdraw from the program can still graduate with their undergraduate degree after four years.
