Computer Science merges the intellectual rigor of a developing field with the dynamism of cutting-edge technology. For more than 25 years, Lakehead University has fostered a vibrant computer science community. The department is located in the Advanced Technology and Academic Centre (ATAC), a modern facility that serves as the hub for the university's computing initiatives. Students and faculty enjoy access to top-tier resources, including smart classrooms, specialized labs, and advanced technologies like Virtual Reality and Parallel Computing. The Master's program in computer science offers students the chance to delve into comprehensive advanced studies while pursuing research tailored to their goals.
Students can choose from three program pathways:
Course-based Master's (1 year): Focused on industry-relevant coursework
Project-based Master's (2 years): Combines coursework with a focused research project
Thesis-based Master's (2 years): Emphasizes in-depth research with fewer required courses
Note that the Course-based option does not qualify students for doctoral studies, while the Project and Thesis tracks provide preparation for advanced degrees (e.g. PhD) and may include Co-op opportunities for practical industry experience.
