The Faculty of Education at Lakehead University provides a Master of Education program tailored to align with your professional aspirations and academic pursuits. Our MEd program delivers a distinctive educational experience that engages with contemporary developments in both teaching practices and scholarly research. The program features two specialized pathways: Educational Studies and Education for Change.
The Education for Change pathway offers a forward-thinking approach to graduate studies, enabling you to complete your Master's degree with focused specializations in Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE), Indigenous Education (IE), or Social Justice Education (SJE). These options can also be paired with a Gender and Women's Studies concentration.
Through the Educational Studies pathway, you can obtain your Master's degree while exploring educational theory, research methodologies, and practical applications across diverse learning environments, with additional specialization options in Gerontology or Gender and Women's Studies. Our MEd program adapts to the evolving requirements of education professionals, offering Thesis, Portfolio, or Course completion options for both pathways. These flexible study options cater to various academic interests and are available for both full-time and part-time students. The faculty proudly hosts two Canada Research Chairs (in Environmental Education and Arts Integrated Research), along with the Centre for Place and Sustainability Studies, the Multi-Data Convergence Laboratory, and the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education.
Lakehead University's Department of Gender and Women's Studies commits to advancing knowledge about gender as a critical analytical framework in academic research. Through cross-disciplinary coursework, you'll examine how existing knowledge systems represent gendered experiences and scholarship. The program fosters the growth and incorporation of gender-informed teaching, research methodologies, and learning approaches throughout academic and broader communities. This collaborative Master's program enables students to merge specialized disciplinary research with interdisciplinary perspectives from Gender and Women's Studies.
