The MA in Social Justice Studies offers a cutting-edge, cross-disciplinary curriculum. Students can opt for a 4 FCE course-based degree or, pending approval from the Social Justice Studies Committee, substitute their final 1 FCE with a practicum, creative endeavor, or research initiative. This program equips graduates to actively promote, investigate, and champion a fairer society that upholds equity, unity, fundamental rights, and universal human dignity.
Three distinct pathways are available: a standard MA in Social Justice Studies, a Social Justice Studies Specialization, or an MA in Social Justice Studies combined with a Gender and Women's Studies Specialization. MA candidates can select between coursework, research projects, creative projects, or practicum options.
The program commences with two foundational half-credit courses: social justice theory and research methodologies. Coursework-focused students then select six additional half-credit electives from the approved curriculum, while research, creative, and practicum participants choose four. Research stream students submit a 40-50 page project instead of one FCE. Creative stream participants deliver both their artistic work and a 20-page explanatory statement. Practicum students fulfill 200 hours with an accredited social justice organization, accompanied by a 20-page reflective report.

Qualification Requirements
Applicants for admission must be graduates of a recognized university, college, or institute as well as show evidence of scholarly achievement. Except where otherwise stated in the Admission Requirements of a particular program, degree students must have a four year bachelor's degree or its equivalent with at least second class standing (B) based on their last 20 half courses or equivalent.
An applicant holding a degree other than one in the discipline area to which admission is sought will be considered on the basis of courses taken and academic standing. A Qualifying Year at the undergraduate level may be required to meet the admission standards. Courses taken as part of a Qualifying Year can not be used as credit towards a graduate degree.
Our minimum admission requirement for international applicants is 75% or 3.0 on a 4 point Canadian scale, with an accredited university degree equivalent to a Lakehead University 4 year degree.

TOEFL - Minimum Score for Internet Based Test (iBT): 80 (no component score less than 19).Minimum Score for Computer Based Test (cBT): 213 (no component score less than 17.
