The Economics program provides instruction in fundamental economic theory along with various specialized field courses. Our non-thesis track, which aligns with most North American graduate Economics programs, requires eight half courses and an in-depth research paper. Typically, students enroll in six courses during their initial year (three per semester), followed by two courses in their second fall term before finalizing their research paper in the subsequent winter semester.
The co-op track aims to let students implement classroom learning while gaining practical experience. After completing two academic terms, students undertake two four-month work placements (which can be consecutive). Eligibility for co-op requires finishing at least six required half courses from the non-thesis curriculum. Work term approvals depend on academic achievement, with the Department and Career Services collaborating to secure appropriate positions. Students resume their studies after completing their work terms.
