Psychologists aim to positively impact human well-being by studying and shaping thoughts, feelings, and actions. They examine our motivations, the social and biological influences on behavior, and what distinguishes individuals. Lakehead University's interdisciplinary Psychology program lets students investigate these areas through either Arts or Science pathways, tailored to their academic goals. Regardless of the chosen path, graduates acquire analytical skills to formulate theories, conduct scientific tests, and advance knowledge through rigorous research. Our program's distinctive strength lies in its comprehensive coverage - undergraduates gain foundational knowledge across all core areas: Biological, Cognitive-Affective, Individual, Social, Abnormal, and Developmental Psychology, alongside specialized electives.
We emphasize that adaptable learning leads to diverse career possibilities. Students can combine Psychology with complementary majors like Gerontology, Philosophy, Women's Studies, or Education to examine interdisciplinary connections. Many faculty members are active clinical psychologists with extensive professional networks, enabling students to engage in research and volunteer work starting in their first year.
