Anthropology offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary exploration of human life across time and cultures. As an Anthropology student, you'll examine diverse subjects ranging from ancient stone tools and skeletal remains to modern economic systems and linguistic variations. Our Department features four specialized branches: Archaeology, Bioanthropology, Linguistics, and Socio-Cultural Anthropology, each offering numerous research avenues.
The curriculum combines classroom instruction with seminars, laboratory work, and field studies to deliver balanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills. You'll utilize cutting-edge laboratories and anthropological collections that have supported major discoveries and been employed by leading experts worldwide.
Our internationally recognized faculty actively pursue innovative research, creating exceptional undergraduate research possibilities. Many students collaborate with professors on specialized projects, with numerous undergraduates presenting their work at national conferences and making early career impacts. The department also operates a summer field school offering practical experience in archaeological digs, lab techniques, artifact analysis, and site mapping. While primarily based in Northwestern Ontario, international opportunities exist through our partnerships in Croatia, Israel, and Italy for those seeking global learning experiences.
