Anthropology encompasses the comprehensive, interdisciplinary examination and recording of human life across time. As an Anthropology student, you'll explore diverse subjects ranging from ancient stone tools and bone remains to modern economic systems and regional speech patterns. Our Anthropology Department features four specialized branches offering numerous research avenues: Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Sociocultural Anthropology.
Our curriculum combines classroom instruction with seminars, laboratory sessions, and fieldwork to deliver balanced training in both theoretical concepts and practical skills within your chosen specialization. You'll work with exceptional laboratory facilities and anthropological collections that have supported revolutionary discoveries and been used by top experts in the discipline.
Our professors are internationally recognized researchers whose innovative work enhances our prestigious undergraduate research programs. They frequently collaborate with undergraduates on specialized courses and research initiatives, with many students presenting their work at national archaeology conferences and making early career impacts. We also offer summer field schools that provide practical experience in archaeological digs, lab processing, artifact classification, and site mapping. While most field schools operate in Northwestern Ontario, we maintain partnerships with institutions in Croatia, Israel, and Italy for those seeking international study opportunities.
