This 30-week course equips students with the expertise, techniques, and professional conduct needed to become skilled farriers. Upon completion, participants will master the theoretical foundations of equine hoof care, learning how proper farriery enhances horse health and fulfills industry standards. Students will develop safe, compassionate, and effective hoof care practices suitable for diverse equestrian activities while learning to collaborate with clients and industry professionals. The program includes hands-on training (FARR 1140) for real-world experience and an ePortfolio component (FARR 1150) to record, evaluate, and showcase their academic, workshop, and fieldwork while expanding their professional connections.
Participants join from across British Columbia and North America, bringing prior equine experience and a shared commitment to farriery. The program welcomes students of all backgrounds, from young high school graduates to career-changers, with both women and men excelling in this field.
Success in this profession requires physical stamina, particularly strong knees and back health.
