Humber's Advertising & Graphic Design diploma program prepares students to become skilled advertising art directors and graphic designers by developing strategic, visual, conceptual, typographical, and technical abilities. The curriculum combines advertising studies with essential skill-building in creative thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and presentation techniques.
Students explore all aspects of visual communication, from color theory and conceptual development to typography, design principles, marketing approaches, digital media, and technology using professional-standard tools. A distinctive feature is the chance to work on real client projects through BuildingF, the college's internal creative agency. While mastering core advertising and marketing principles, students collaborate on practical assignments with peers from complementary programs, strengthening teamwork abilities crucial for professional success. The first semester is shared with several related programs, allowing flexibility to switch specializations in the second term. January intake students begin alongside Media Communications and Advertising/Marketing Communications peers, with the option to transfer between these programs for subsequent semesters.
Our visually saturated world depends on branding, digital design, and printed materials, making advertising and graphic design an ideal career path for creative individuals. Graduates enter a media-driven landscape shaping corporate identities, publications, digital campaigns, logos, and various print/digital communications. Alumni find success at ad agencies, design firms, corporate marketing departments, digital studios, and as independent art directors or designers in this expanding freelance market.
