Humber's Advanced Diploma in Game Programming centers on coding expertise, equipping students to develop games across all scales, from indie to blockbuster titles. This program caters to individuals deeply interested in game creation, software development, and mathematical applications. Students will acquire comprehensive skills in C programming, visual rendering (SDL, OpenGL, Vulkan), mathematical principles, physics systems, AI implementation, Unreal/Unity engines, and network programming. Through solo and collaborative assignments, participants gain practical experience with development tools while mastering essential topics like game engine design, memory optimization, and agile workflow strategies. The curriculum includes teamwork opportunities with Animation-3D diploma students and Music degree candidates during intensive game jams, external collaborations, and semester-long classroom projects - fostering the collaborative abilities crucial for gaming careers.
The culminating term features an industry placement providing real-world professional exposure. Throughout this practical experience, students engage in guided reflection sessions while receiving mentorship from both workplace supervisors and college industry specialists. This experiential learning approach facilitates a smooth transition into the workforce while meeting employer demands for job-ready graduates with practical industry knowledge.
To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U or equivalent)
Two Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above
Physics and/or computer science is recommended preparation for this program.
