As a practical nurse, you'll deliver safe, skilled, and ethical care to diverse patients with various illnesses and disabilities throughout all life stages. You'll collaborate with patients and healthcare teams to address physical, emotional, social, mental, cultural, and spiritual needs through holistic support. Your role involves enhancing health outcomes for patients, families, communities, and yourself while maintaining a positive work environment.
Your education combines theoretical learning and lab training covering subjects like human anatomy, nursing fundamentals, medication management, and disease treatment. You'll gain hands-on experience in various healthcare facilities. Clinical rotations may take place at different sites across PEI, and since nursing operates around the clock, your schedule may include early mornings, days, evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays. Students are responsible for all placement expenses, with no assurances about preferred locations or shift times. Transportation to clinical sites is the student's responsibility, and public transit may not accommodate all schedules or locations.
