Waste stands as one of today's most pressing challenges – with growing waste quantities, escalating environmental consequences, rising management costs, and the complexities of handling waste in developing nations and emerging economies driving significant changes in waste management approaches across Ontario and globally. Nations worldwide are transitioning toward circular economic models, demanding innovative waste solutions beyond traditional landfill disposal. Ontario's Waste-Free Ontario Act now holds producers accountable for their waste streams. Neglecting proper waste management carries far-reaching consequences, affecting economic stability, ecological balance, community welfare, and public health through toxic pollution, heightened greenhouse effects, rising disease rates, and the depletion of precious materials.
Delivered solely through the School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, the Waste Resource Management - Environmental program represents Ontario's only college curriculum specifically designed to develop expertise in sustainable waste handling practices.
