Begin your journey with the Mental Health and Addiction Worker diploma program and achieve a Social Service Worker diploma across six consecutive semesters, expanding your career prospects while acquiring complementary skills. This dual-diploma option is exclusively offered to students commencing their studies in fall or winter. Following a shared first semester, participants in both the Mental Health and Addiction Worker and Social Service Worker programs can opt to pursue both credentials.
Selecting this Dual Diploma route as a Mental Health and Addiction Worker student equips you with additional social service expertise, enabling you to address broader societal challenges—including inequities and systemic injustices—through counseling, community initiatives, and support programs. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, training graduates to collaborate with professionals like educators, healthcare providers, and social workers across various residential and community environments. The curriculum also incorporates traditional healing methods and explores the lasting effects of colonization, assimilation policies, and intergenerational trauma.
Those beginning in the Mental Health and Addiction Worker program will undertake their Social Service Worker placement in the fifth semester, followed by their final Mental Health and Addiction Worker placement in the sixth semester, integrating classroom theory with real-world application. Students complete two field placements: one centered on social service practice and another specializing in mental health and addiction support.
