This program offers extensive practical environmental training alongside classroom instruction, equipping you with the skills to assess and enhance natural ecosystems. The Environmental Technician program holds accreditation from the Canadian Environmental Accreditation Commission (CEAC), a key committee under Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) Canada.
Through ECO Canada, students can pursue various environmental certifications such as Environmental Professional (EP) and Environmental Professional-in-Training (EPt).
Successful completion of the Water Treatment and Pollution Control certification exam enables Environmental Technician graduates to fulfill the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Control (MOECC) Entry-Level Course requirements for Drinking Water Operators - a mandatory qualification for this career path. This course is offered through collaboration between Fleming College, the Ministry of the Environment, and the Walkerton Clean Water Centre.
The program also provides four essential MOECC Operator-in-Training certificates ("OIT's") covering Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection - all necessary for careers in water and wastewater management.
The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) provisionally accepts program graduates as meeting the academic criteria for Certified Technician (C. Tech.) status.
Environmental Technician graduates who advance to the Environmental Technology program may participate in research initiatives at the college's Centre for Alternative Wastewater Treatment (CAWT). This nationally recognized facility specializes in developing wastewater solutions tailored for northern environments.
