Fanshawe's MRI program enables you to expand your current skills while broadening your career prospects. A key advantage? The online format lets you continue working while completing your studies. After two 15-week semesters, you'll undertake a 15-week clinical placement at a partner hospital to refine your expertise further. This one-year graduate certificate in Magnetic Resonance Imaging meets the educational standards set by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT). Eligible applicants must hold registration as Radiographers (RTR), Nuclear Medicine Technologists (RTNM), Radiation Therapists (RTRT), or Sonographers (CARDUP). The curriculum equips graduates with clinical proficiency, effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities for healthcare settings.This online offering allows technologists to gain specialized knowledge alongside practical clinical experience. With classes and labs scheduled three days weekly, students can balance work commitments with professional development. The two 15-week terms cover essential topics including MR safety, physics, patient care, imaging protocols, pathology, and cross-sectional anatomy. Instruction comes from certified MRI professionals, with hands-on practice using simulation software.The program's third level features an intensive 15-week clinical rotation (560 hours) in inpatient/outpatient facilities, building essential skills for entry-level practice. The final Consolidation and Review course prepares students for national certification exams.Program CompetenciesGraduates will demonstrate the capability to:Conduct standardized MRI examinations of the head/neck, spine, chest, abdomen/pelvis, musculoskeletal system, and vascular structures.Implement MRI physics principles in clinical service delivery.Maintain safety protocols for patients and staff during MRI procedures.Engage effectively with patients and their families during imaging processes.Position patients correctly following established protocols to ensure optimal image quality.Operate MRI equipment, accessories, and software per industry standards.Monitor patient status during procedures and respond appropriately.Apply anatomical, physiological, and pathological knowledge to MRI practice.Manage image transfer and storage using available digital media.Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.Maintain professional conduct as healthcare team members.Conduct quality control assessments to optimize MRI system performance.Career ProspectsGraduates work as MRI technologists in hospitals, clinics, research institutions, and private sector facilities nationwide.Did you know? TOEFL iBT: 92 (22 writing, 26 speaking, 20 reading and 20 listening)
IELTS Academic: Overall score of 7.0 with no score less than 6.5 in reading and listening and a score of 7.0 in writing and speaking
CAEL: 70 in writing, reading and speaking and a score of 80 in listening
PTE Academic: 65
Cambridge English: Overall score of 185 with no language skill less than 176 and a score of 185 in listening
