This one-year online graduate certificate program explores every facet of comprehensive emergency management, including disaster readiness, emergency response coordination, and proven methods for preparing, responding to, and recovering from various crises. You'll engage with project management, risk evaluation principles, mitigation strategies, response and recovery methods, and business continuity - all while honing the vital communication skills crucial to emergency management.While primarily delivered virtually, students will participate in two in-person sessions (one per semester). These sessions offer provincial certification opportunities and allow students to apply their knowledge by designing and conducting a tabletop emergency exercise for community partners. The program provides a flexible blend of online and in-person learning to accommodate your schedule. Additionally, you'll complete a customizable field placement, working alongside emergency professionals in diverse settings.Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for emergency planning roles in both private and public sectors. Your work will primarily involve collaborating with community partners to safeguard lives and property behind the scenes. Career opportunities for graduates span various fields, including first response, security management, and alarm monitoring. Potential positions include business continuity planners, emergency response officers, disaster recovery coordinators, and emergency policy analysts, with responsibilities such as:Maintaining operational readiness for emergency control groups and operations centers
Collaborating with internal teams and community leaders to create and execute emergency and business continuity strategies
Developing comprehensive emergency plans addressing public communications, social services, evacuations, telecommunications, and hazard-specific preparations
Creating emergency management and business continuity initiatives involving public education, risk reduction, training, and simulation exercises
