Fanshawe's two-year Horticulture Technician diploma equips you with hands-on skills and expertise for cultivating the environment. Gain real-world experience through national competitions, our student-operated greenhouse, two co-op placements, and the renowned Fanshawe College Botanical Gardens.
Master landscape construction, garden maintenance, and interior plant care while studying arboriculture, design principles, plant species recognition, cultivation techniques, and business operations. The program focuses heavily on practical training, featuring two co-op terms, access to our dedicated student greenhouse, and learning opportunities in the internationally recognized Fanshawe College Botanical Gardens. These include our expansive London Campus grounds and the A.M. Cuddy Garden near Strathroy - home to rare plant species and accredited by Botanic Gardens Conservation International.
Industry leaders highly regard our Horticulture Technician program, with students regularly winning medals at Skills Canada's Landscape Gardening competitions. Professional development includes designing showcase gardens for Toronto's Landscape Congress, volunteering at Canada Blooms, and joining Landscape Ontario's Student Chapter for networking.
This diploma prepares graduates to meet Ontario's strong industry demand, with approximately 1,600 horticulture jobs available yearly (Landscape Ontario data). The curriculum balances theory and practice - first-year focuses on classroom learning, while second-year dedicates 80% of instruction to outdoor fieldwork including Landscape Construction, Greenhouse Operations, Tree Care, and Maintenance Practices.
