Auto body repair technicians engage in hands-on work, experience diverse daily responsibilities, and witness tangible results of their efforts. Their expertise is increasingly sought after as vehicle manufacturers adopt innovative materials and construction methods requiring advanced repair approaches, tools, and supplies. Training programs focus on essential technical skills for beginners in auto body repair: welding, refinishing, metal fabrication, and structural repairs. Throughout the program, students get ample practice in our modern auto body facility, building both practical skills and theoretical knowledge of current industry technologies and methods.
The curriculum also covers vehicle damage assessment, professional estimate preparation, industry-standard software usage, and shop management basics. These competencies are vital for graduates to excel in the auto body and collision repair sector and prosper in this growing field. Program completers will have the chance to take the level one apprenticeship exemption test, granting them a one-year head start on their three-year apprenticeship training.
Fanshawe's Auto Body Repair Techniques program equips graduates to begin careers as auto body apprentices. They can fast-track their apprenticeship by attempting the Ontario College of Trades exam for Auto Body Apprentice Training (Branch 1). Career opportunities include positions as estimators, insurance appraisers, or roles with aftermarket parts suppliers.
