The Electrical Engineering Technology program is a three-year advanced Ontario diploma offering up to 16 months of paid cooperative education. Participants engage with electrical, electronic, and digital systems while completing an eight-month co-op placement that delivers practical electrician training and elevates their qualification to an advanced diploma level.
This curriculum equips learners with both foundational theory and hands-on skills for diverse electrical engineering fields, spanning industrial process control and power systems. The program covers PLCs, electric motors, digital systems, automation controls, transformers, and technological industry applications. Advanced students delve into telecommunications, networking, human-machine interfaces, embedded system programming, and sophisticated PLC uses within industrial settings, including machinery control, PID systems, and robotics. The program emphasizes safety protocols, industry standards, technical documentation, and CAD training before students undertake their cooperative placement, where they can refine their practical abilities and theoretical understanding through 16 months of paid real-world experience before entering the workforce.
Graduates will be prepared for employment in expanding sectors like automation, network communications, electrical protection systems, process control, electronics, and embedded technologies. The curriculum includes electrical design, automation principles, power generation/distribution, and skill development. Alumni will demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD, fluid power systems, PLCs, motor systems, electronics, programming, and industrial automation. Students consistently apply their learning in alignment with the Canadian Electrical Code, occupational health/safety standards, and project management practices. The program also fosters professional communication and teamwork abilities.
