The Child and Youth Care program offers a three-year advanced diploma focusing on family dynamics and addressing children's emotional and behavioral needs. This curriculum covers specialized education approaches and adaptive technologies, with hands-on training through three full-time fieldwork placements.
Throughout the program, expert faculty will guide you in understanding family systems, emotional disturbances in youth, and behavioral interventions. You'll cultivate counseling abilities, study cases of maltreatment and neglect, explore mental health conditions, analyze family structures, learn therapeutic methods, and enhance professional competencies essential for this sector.
This intensive diploma program alternates academic semesters with practical placements, providing over 1,500 hours of direct client interaction. Fanshawe equips future child and youth workers with both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise to excel in this demanding profession.
Graduates emerge with versatile skills applicable across multiple settings including residential care facilities, juvenile justice systems, therapeutic centers, child welfare organizations, school boards, community outreach programs, crisis intervention services, and healthcare institutions.
The program develops professionals capable of supporting young individuals facing psychological, social, and behavioral difficulties through a balanced approach combining rigorous academics with extensive practical training in real-world environments.
