The six-year graduate training program in oral and maxillofacial surgery combines clinical education with academic study, culminating in both an MD and MSc degree. This collaborative initiative operates across multiple institutions, including the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, IWK-Grace Health Care Centre, and Dalhousie University. A significant portion of the curriculum focuses on research, requiring students to complete and defend a Master's thesis based on original investigation.
The program offers comprehensive instruction in various surgical procedures, including dentofacial correction, sleep apnea treatment, cleft lip/palate repair, facial reconstruction, trauma management, dental implantology, and other specialized oral and maxillofacial surgical techniques.
