Examine both mainstream Hollywood productions and independent art films while discovering cinematic traditions from around the world.
You'll learn the fundamentals of visual analysis and the vocabulary of filmmaking techniques including camera work, post-production, audio design, performance, and production design - while tracing the evolution of motion pictures from their origins to contemporary formats.
Upper-level electives allow for specialized study of particular film styles, influential filmmakers, and international cinema movements. The curriculum also covers cross-disciplinary subjects like storytelling techniques, comparative literature and film analysis, women's perspectives in cinema, and the relationship between music and visual media.
