Confederation College's two-year Environmental Technician diploma program equips you with skills to manage both natural and developed environments. The curriculum addresses ecological challenges while offering practical training in ecosystem evaluation, conservation, and rehabilitation. You'll study in an exceptional outdoor classroom - the Boreal Forest, a vast and varied woodland ecosystem encircling the Northern Hemisphere. The program covers diverse subjects such as plant classification, natural resource assessment, soil science, ecological principles, waste handling, hydrology, and water treatment systems.
Career paths for graduates span multiple environmental fields. Alumni may select laboratory-based roles, fieldwork positions, or hybrid opportunities combining both. While water resources form a significant program focus, you'll also develop expertise in land ecosystems and industrial environmental management. Numerous graduates secure positions with consulting firms providing varied experiences, including opportunities in the Mining industry. Most students complete the program with Ontario's Entry-Level Drinking Water Certification, and many additionally earn the Operator-in-Training (Water Treatment) Certificate.
