The MA in Film Studies explores cinema as an artistic, cultural, and political form of expression. This program aims to introduce students to diverse approaches for analyzing film and media, helping them comprehend the significance of moving images throughout history and society. It covers aesthetic principles, theoretical frameworks, and research techniques that empower students to interpret their engagement with today's digital visual culture. As students investigate contemporary developments in moving image media, they're supported in crafting original research initiatives. You'll join an engaged student community, cultivate specialized interests, and access top-tier Canadian research facilities. Our distinguished faculty brings together scholars from various fields and institutions, including four research chair holders. Montreal's rich cultural landscape - featuring diverse cinemas, museums, galleries, and artist collectives - provides students with an exceptionally stimulating urban setting for study and creative work.
