The Psychology PhD program emphasizes intensive research, with students typically specializing in one of four key research domains: behavioral neuroscience, clinical and health studies, cognitive science, or human development processes. The program offers two distinct pathways. The Research Pathway prepares graduates for careers in academic research, corporate settings, or higher education. Alternatively, the Research and Clinical Training Pathway combines professional psychological service training with research, opening doors to careers in healthcare institutions, policy development, alongside traditional research and academic roles. This clinical pathway holds accreditation from both the Ordre des Psychologues du Quebec and the Canadian Psychological Association. Our department cultivates future research leaders through cutting-edge laboratory experiences.
Research explores the neurological foundations of reward systems, decision-making processes, memory formation, addiction, eating behaviors, reproductive actions, and circadian rhythms.
Current investigations examine parallels and distinctions in neural and hormonal systems governing eating habits, substance use behaviors, and brain reward mechanisms. Additional studies focus on conditioning's influence on sexual behaviors, neurochemical regulation of maternal instincts, interactions between primary and secondary biological clocks, and cortical structures' involvement in memory formation and retention.
