Delve into Jewish history, culture, and literature to gain profound insights into the Jewish community's experiences across different eras. This exploration spans ancient and modern languages, political systems, philosophical thought, and legal frameworks, allowing you to contrast Jewish traditions with other religious practices. Examine modern contexts while analyzing how mysticism, rituals, and philosophical ideas connect with contemporary culture, gender studies, culinary traditions, ethical systems, and spiritual practices.

As you investigate all dimensions of Jewish life—including women's roles throughout history (from Talmudic times to medieval and modern periods) and the Holocaust—you'll engage in meaningful reflection about Jewish identity and the experience of ethnic minorities. Additionally, you'll have opportunities to enhance your Hebrew language skills.

With increasing focus on local fieldwork in Montreal, you'll interact with diverse Jewish groups, including those transitioning toward secular lifestyles.

Through the Azrieli Institute, you can access funding for study programs in Israel. The Concordia Institute for Judaic Studies also facilitates research projects and internships within Montreal's Jewish community, promoting an inclusive approach to religious studies that values cultural, gender, and sexual diversity while emphasizing hands-on learning.
