The Master of Biotechnology is a specialized graduate program that emphasizes the scientific, communicative, business, entrepreneurial, and regulatory aspects of biotechnology. This comprehensive program explores biotechnology in its widest context, leveraging living organisms or their derivatives to create or enhance valuable products.
While primarily course-based, the curriculum includes hands-on, experiential learning. It equips students with essential skills for entrepreneurial ventures in biotechnology, fostering the transformation of life-science knowledge into real-world applications and career prospects.
Designed with students in mind, the program cultivates practical biotechnology skills applicable to diverse fields like agriculture, forestry, environmental science, food production, healthcare, and industry, tailored to individual interests. By collaborating with regional biotech firms and government agencies, the program enhances technological innovation and business networks in eastern Ontario. A key focus is empowering students with the resources to launch their own startups.
We advocate for sustainable technology, emphasizing long-term planning, ethical considerations, and life-cycle assessments. The program also incorporates Indigenous perspectives, promoting awareness of ethnobotany and ethnopharmacology, while adopting a cosmocentric approach to tackle contemporary challenges like climate change, resource depletion, and habitat destruction.
