Join us in shaping a sustainable future through the Bachelor of Arts and Science in Environment (BASE) program. As CBU's inaugural fully interdisciplinary degree, BASE leverages the stunning natural landscapes of Cape Breton Island as living classrooms. This innovative program embodies our institution's dedication to environmental education and sustainability research, while integrating valuable Indigenous worldviews.
BASE students benefit from passionate faculty mentors and exceptional research possibilities, gaining versatile expertise across disciplines. The program uniquely combines three integrated pathways: scientific studies, arts/social sciences, and a specialized environmental curriculum tailored for this degree.
Our dynamic course offerings evolve annually to highlight faculty expertise and pressing ecological challenges. Indigenous knowledge systems form a foundational element of BASE, with Mi'kmaq Studies courses available to all students. This prepares graduates to become thoughtful leaders in implementing sustainable environmental solutions.
