Our institution boasts cutting-edge equipment that stands among the most sophisticated in the discipline. Unlike many schools that restrict new equipment solely for research purposes, Brock's facilities serve dual roles in both education and investigation. Our focus on experiential learning produces exceptionally capable graduates who excel as scientists. As a student, you'll actively contribute to research initiatives through specialized courses and compensated summer projects, potentially even collaborating on published works.
The curriculum emphasizes fundamental chemical concepts and their practical application across various specialties: organic, inorganic, analytical, physical, and theoretical chemistry. Particular attention is given to interdisciplinary areas like bio-inorganic chemistry, bio-organic chemistry, and chemical biophysics. Faculty research explores diverse areas such as creating novel chiral ligands, developing organometallic reagents, pioneering asymmetric synthesis techniques, and advancing green chemistry. Additional investigations examine protein affinity labeling, protein-lipid interactions, and structure-activity relationships in anticancer drugs. The department also pursues innovative work in ligand design, crystal engineering for novel molecular materials, advanced spectroscopic techniques, nanomaterial synthesis, organic matter analysis, and contaminant detection. Theoretical studies concentrate on elucidating charge and energy transfer mechanisms within photosynthetic proteins.
