Film Studies offers a series of analytical and historical classes that investigate diverse cinematic approaches. These courses delve into the essence of film language while fostering a critical viewpoint on cinema as both an artistic expression and communication medium. Additional classes examine concepts and theories within popular culture. Upper-level courses may provide chances for students to participate in media production. Brock University hosts one of Canada's most prestigious and longest-running film studies programs, emphasizing critical and historical examinations of film and related media.
Weekly film screenings are a standard feature in most courses, exposing students to diverse cinematic styles. This broad exposure cultivates a comprehensive grasp of the medium for aspiring filmmakers, critics, and educators. Elective video production courses are available, along with potential involvement in the Brock University Film Series (BUFS) and/or Brock TV.
