The English Department's Literature programs emphasize exploring the traditions, themes, and evolving nature of creative writing in English across different historical and cultural settings. Students can select from diverse course offerings including historically-focused studies, genre-specific classes, and examinations of linguistic evolution, critical theories, and analytical approaches. The Writing, Rhetoric and Discourse Studies curriculum explores writing's theoretical foundations, creative potential, and practical uses in various situations. Meanwhile, the Creative Writing program hones skills in major literary forms while examining the cultural and practical aspects of creative expression. Through these programs, the Department strives to cultivate sharp critical thinking, exceptional language proficiency, and deep respect for literature's enduring social and personal significance throughout history and across cultures.
Our English Language and Literature along with English and Contemporary Culture curricula expose students to numerous literary styles, historical eras, and critical perspectives. These programs offer excellent groundwork for pursuing education or law degrees, entering public relations and communications fields, or undertaking advanced studies in Library Science or English disciplines.
