The English Department's Literature programs emphasize exploring the traditions, themes, and evolving nature of English creative writing across different historical and cultural settings. Students can select from diverse course offerings including historical surveys, genre studies, and explorations of linguistic evolution, criticism, and theory. The Writing, Rhetoric and Discourse Studies curriculum examines writing's theoretical foundations, creative possibilities, and practical uses in various situations. Meanwhile, the Creative Writing program concentrates on mastering essential literary forms while considering the cultural and societal dimensions of creative expression. Through these programs, the Department strives to cultivate analytical thinking, linguistic excellence, and an awareness of literature's enduring significance across societies and eras.
Our English Language and Literature along with English and Contemporary Culture curricula expose students to numerous literary styles, historical epochs, and critical perspectives. These programs offer excellent groundwork for pursuing education or law degrees, entering public relations and communications fields, or undertaking advanced studies in Library Science and English disciplines.
