The Interior Design Fundamentals Certificate represents the initial year of the Interior Design curriculum, providing a foundational introduction to interior design principles with an emphasis on residential environments.

The coursework covers design theory, space planning, lighting concepts, color application, historical influences, material selection, technical drafting for residential projects, sustainable practices, communication techniques, and visual presentation methods using both manual and digital tools.

This certificate program is available through Flexible Learning or full-time study. Flexible Learning allows students to enroll in individual courses at their own pace, with all courses offered during January, April, and September terms. Full-time students complete a structured eleven-month program (spanning three terms) beginning each September.

Admission to the full-time program is competitive, with preference given to applicants who have: Academic grades above the minimum Requirements completed within the last five years Additional post-secondary academic courses English language proficiency: Category 2 – English Studies 12 (67%) or equivalent Math: one of the following: Pre-Calculus 11 (50%) or Foundations of Math 11 (50%) or Workplace Math 11 (50%) or Other acceptable BC and Yukon courses IELTS Academic - Overall score 6.5 No band less than 5.5. TOEFL (iBT) - Overall score 86 No section score less than 20.
