Our curriculum spans diverse topics, each centered on the fundamental elements and mechanisms of living systems. From examining essential biological molecules to analyzing complete ecosystems, our programs aim to equip students with knowledge across life science disciplines while enhancing their capacity for independent exploration.
Students can pursue multiple degree paths within our department: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biochemistry, Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biology, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Biology, as well as Minors in both Biochemistry and Biology. The Biology B.Sc. and B.A. degrees feature two specialized tracks: health sciences or biodiversity and ecology concentrations.
We offer two Biochemistry B.Sc. programs: an honours stream and a major program. Both provide comprehensive training in biology, biochemistry, and chemistry, with the honours program additionally featuring an independent research component. Biochemistry graduates are exceptionally prepared for advanced studies (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) or professional programs in fields like medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, or veterinary medicine.
Students are not admitted to the Honours Biochemistry program until the end of their Y3 year. To be eligible to enter the Honours Biochemistry program, a student must normally achieve: i) a minimum cumulative average of 75% by the end of the Y3 year, and ii) at least 75% in each 300-level and 400-level course required in the program. To complete the Honours Biochemistry program, a student must; i) maintain a minimum cumulative average of 75% and ii) achieve at least 75% in each 300-level and 400-level course required in the program with a maximum permitted exemption of four credits.
