The Film and Media Studies Concentration cultivates students' deep understanding of cinema and moving-image media's historical evolution, employing interdisciplinary theories to analyze them as both artistic expressions and cultural commodities that foster societal connections. Learners examine how these media influence perceptions, construct worldviews, and mediate social relationships through their representations. While English Department courses form the core, complementary offerings from Classics, Drama, Music, Religion, Modern Languages, Sociology, Philosophy, and History provide diverse perspectives. The program includes hands-on opportunities in screenwriting and film production, equipping graduates with sophisticated media literacy to engage thoughtfully and innovatively in our media-saturated world as informed global participants. With faculty guidance, students may pursue Honours specialization in Film and Media Studies.
At Bishop's University's liberal arts college, the English Department provides varied curricula that enhance students' critical engagement with textual forms (including literature, film, TV, and popular culture) while deepening their comprehension of cultural dynamics through historical and theoretical lenses. English majors acquire analytical, research, and communication competencies valuable for numerous professions in the knowledge economy. Alumni have advanced to graduate studies and careers spanning education, creative media, legal practice, politics, publishing, journalism, and corporate communications.

The Literature Concentration delivers comprehensive exposure to British, Canadian, American, Irish, and Postcolonial literary traditions. By studying works from different historical contexts, students gain insight into how societies have articulated ideas and lived experiences across time periods. With departmental advising, Literature Concentration students may opt for the English Honours Literature track.
