Assiniboine's nine-month Carpentry and Woodworking certificate program provides essential pre-apprenticeship training for careers in both carpentry and cabinetmaking. Students who register as apprentices within two years of graduation may receive credit toward their Level 1 Carpenter apprenticeship while gaining practical industry experience. Carpenters specialize in building, renovating, and repairing various structures—including residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial projects—using materials like wood, steel, and concrete. Employment opportunities exist with construction firms, property management companies, developers, prefabrication facilities, and government agencies. Carpenters may work in union or non-union settings or operate independently, often adapting to diverse job site conditions. The profession demands physical stamina and mental focus, with safety being a top priority. Skilled carpenters can progress to supervisory roles or start their own contracting businesses.
