Political science explores and examines potential outcomes for nations and their populations, including prospects for peace in conflict-ridden regions, democratic transitions in autocratic regimes, economic fairness within capitalist structures, and cooperation among sovereign states. The examination of political systems has long formed the cornerstone of education aimed at preserving and enhancing societal well-being. Ancient civilizations like the Chinese, Greeks, and Romans considered political engagement among humanity's most noble pursuits. Across the globe, Indigenous communities have developed distinctive and impactful political systems for thousands of years. Regardless of awareness, every individual engages with political processes.
Algoma University's four-year Political Science BA program emphasizes three key disciplines: Canadian governance, public administration and policy, global political comparisons and international affairs, along with political ideologies, philosophical foundations, and economic systems. The curriculum intentionally integrates Indigenous perspectives, concepts, and research approaches. Students will develop skills to recognize and analyze crucial societal structures, influential factors, and conceptual frameworks that drive or hinder transformation. The program trains learners to methodically, thoroughly, and critically assess differing interpretations of events or situations while comprehending power dynamics and influential actors.
Students have to complete higher Secondary School Certificate.
