The Juris Doctor (JD) is a professional master's degree that meets the educational qualifications needed to practice law in Australia. Jumpstart your legal career with an immersive course designed to introduce both local and international students to Australia's legal framework, the University's Law School, and the broader legal profession.
Through interactive in-person case studies and collaborative problem-solving, supplemented by digital resources, you'll tackle real-world assessments to build essential knowledge and abilities.
The JD program delivers comprehensive understanding of core legal practice areas, fundamental concepts, and wider legal contexts. It hones critical professional competencies including analytical reasoning, research, effective communication, teamwork, self-organization, and ethical decision-making.
With the Juris Doctor, you'll enjoy the freedom to select from numerous specialized electives, including international study opportunities.
The Juris Doctor is available to graduates with
a completed Bachelor degree or higher, or equivalent, in a discipline other than law
OR
a completed law Diploma, Bachelor or higher qualification, or equivalent, from an overseas jurisdiction
OR
submitted evidence of equivalent general or professional qualifications and/or experience that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.
The equivalence and eligibility for admission is determined by the Course Convenor or the Deputy Dean. Applicants with a law degree from a non-common law jurisdiction may receive credit for some of their previous studies toward the Juris Doctor. Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.
English Language Requirements:
IELTS: 6.5 overall score (min 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL internet-based score of 82: Writing 21, Speaking 18, Reading 13, Listening 13; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 58 overall; No communication skills less than 50.
