In today's highly interconnected world marked by migration, tourism, media, transportation, and communication, preserving historical and natural environments has emerged as a key challenge for societies worldwide. Heritage now serves as a cornerstone for cultural identity, shaping our perspectives on modernity, peace, development, and concepts of citizenship and community stewardship. Simultaneously, heritage sites have gained prominence as popular tourist attractions, making the connection between heritage and tourism increasingly vital in our networked global society. These two elements have become fundamentally intertwined in the 21st century. This academic program explores current heritage challenges while offering comprehensive insights into tourism as a social force. It facilitates critical analysis of the heritage-tourism dynamic across various contexts, both within Australia (including Indigenous communities) and internationally.
