The Peace and Development Studies program focuses on approaches to advance peace, human rights, and sustainable practices. This field critically examines power imbalances and unequal opportunities that contribute to global and community tensions, societal breakdowns, and ecological harm.
Learners will explore systemic roots of racial and gender-based violence, environmental emergencies, displacement, economic hardship, competition over resources, and unfairness between generations. The interconnected solutions encompass fostering autonomy, eco-conscious lifestyles, positive growth initiatives, conflict resolution, and reconciliation efforts. These demand knowledge of frameworks and techniques for recognizing, evaluating, and addressing disputes and environmental damage. Conventional development approaches and their limitations undergo rigorous evaluation. Participants will apply social theories across disciplines in practical contexts, spanning local, national, and global spheres.
