Develop the theoretical knowledge to assess new problems and the hands-on abilities needed to assist individuals in enhancing their wellbeing. Graduates in Health and Physical Education (HPE) distinguish themselves through their comprehensive grasp of health and physical activity principles, and how these connect to broader aspects of physical education.
The HPE curriculum is renowned for its exceptional facilities. Western Sydney University has made substantial investments in specialized spaces for HPE practical training. These are enhanced by numerous sports facilities in the surrounding area and access to outdoor pursuits in the Blue Mountains region.
This program addresses complex topics such as adolescent health concerns, sexual health, substance use, psychological factors, and risky behaviors, alongside core health and sports science subjects like human biology, healthcare systems, wellness promotion, exercise science, motor skill development, and research methods.
Western's campus features a fully-equipped gym, dedicated dance and fitness studios, athletic fields, and indoor sports courts where practical leadership training forms a key component. The program serves as an excellent foundation for pursuing a Master of Teaching qualification and subsequent teaching profession. Career prospects can be broadened beyond HPE by taking courses in complementary fields to qualify for additional teaching specializations.
