From the resurgence of humanist ideals during the Renaissance onward, universities have positioned historical and political studies as fundamental to understanding human nature.

The History and Political Thought major centers on four core units that guide students through humanity's modern era (post-1500). While European history features prominently, the program encourages comparative analysis with the historical developments of Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

This major concludes with a capstone unit in the final semester, examining historical theories and methodologies. Students can choose from diverse electives spanning European, American, Australian, and Asian history and political thought, including thematic courses that traverse various periods and regions.
