The Integrated Doctor of Philosophy program at the School of Geography and Sustainable Communities is designed for graduates from related fields with substantial research experience, offering an opportunity to delve deeper into specialized subjects while completing research-focused coursework. This internationally recognized Doctoral Degree program strengthens both research capabilities and career opportunities.
Spanning four years, the Integrated PhD combines a conventional three-year doctoral thesis with one year of coursework, integrating both general research training and subject-specific material into a cohesive program. Students must successfully complete all coursework components with at least 65% in each subject before progressing to the three-year research phase.
The initial year focuses on coursework and developing research competencies, covering areas such as research methods, literature evaluation, critical assessment or lab-based work, along with specialized subjects or a small-scale research undertaking.
