The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) represents the highest level of postgraduate research education, equipping exceptional students with specialized research capabilities while allowing them to pursue extensive investigation in their selected field.
Working with a dedicated supervision panel of two advisors, you'll autonomously design and implement a research initiative culminating in a comprehensive thesis. Through completing an arts doctoral dissertation, typically spanning 80,000 to 100,000 words, you'll deliver meaningful scholarly contributions to your academic discipline.

Prospective candidates should explore potential supervisors aligned with their research focus via the UOW School of Humanities and Social Inquiry website. It's recommended to consult with potential advisors about your proposed study before submitting an application. Successful applicants will be assigned both a primary supervisor with relevant specialization and a secondary supervisor.

To learn about the University's research initiatives, academic strengths, funding opportunities, and support services, access UOW's Research and Innovation portal.
