An Honours degree allows students to conduct in-depth research on a chosen subject. This program equips learners with the necessary skills to showcase outstanding research capabilities while demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of their research topic within its academic context. To earn an Honours degree, students complete a research thesis in their chosen field of study, along with any mandatory coursework. The Bachelor of Science (Honours) is currently offered across these disciplines: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Exercise Science, Geology, Marine Science, Nutrition Science, and Physical Geography and Environmental Geosciences.

Qualification Requirements
Admission into Honours is competitive. To be considered for entry into the Bachelor of Science Honours, students will:
have qualified for, or be a graduate with a relevant pass degree from the University of Wollongong, or hold an equivalent qualification from another institution,
normally have completed at least 24 credit points of 300-level subjects relating to the Honours discipline,
normally have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 70% for the 24 credit points of 300-level subjects relating to the Honours discipline,
be aware that admission is also subject to an appropriate project being available, and acceptance by an academic supervisor,
complete a separate application form for entry to Honours,
be recommended by the relevant Head of School, and
be approved by the Dean or Associate Dean of the Faculty.
By arrangement with the Schools involved, it is possible to undertake Joint Honours (a research thesis spanning two disciplines).
The following level of English is required to gain admission to this program: IELTS Academic: 6.0 with subscores of 6.0 in each section. TOEFL ibt: 70 (Reading 18, Writing 18, Listening 17, Speaking 17).
