Public Relations (PR) focuses on facilitating information exchange between organizations and their stakeholders, whether they're individuals, the general public, or various groups. Effective communication and strategic planning are central to successful PR, which builds positive perceptions and enhances the reputation of businesses, events, or individuals.
Your studies will begin with a foundational year exploring core business concepts, providing insight into modern organizational challenges. Starting in your second year, you'll specialize in Public Relations. If you have a passion for writing and communication, this major could lead to careers like media relations specialist, digital PR advisor, communications director, event planner, social media strategist, or corporate communications officer.
The program emphasizes hands-on learning, with opportunities to work with actual clients and develop practical PR skills. As part of your coursework, you'll collaborate with classmates to design PR initiatives for nonprofit partners such as St John Ambulance NSW and In2Uni.
In your final year, a capstone project will allow you to integrate your knowledge while working alongside students from other fields. You can also opt for an internship to earn academic credit while gaining professional experience.
The curriculum includes diverse topics like business messaging, PR fundamentals, media writing, advertising approaches, digital promotion, brand management, marketing communications, and innovative PR projects. You'll develop skills to engage various audiences across multiple platforms and analyze cultural, organizational, and ethical factors shaping modern PR practice. Through partnerships with leading Australian PR firms, you'll gain exposure to potential career paths.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Business (Public Relations) can pursue a Master's degree with up to four subject exemptions, potentially completing both degrees in just four years.
