The Archaeology and Ancient History program at UOW allows students to explore two interconnected fields that reshape perspectives on historical events. This innovative major, collaboratively developed by the School of Humanities and Social Inquiry and the Centre for Archaeological Science, provides a unique academic pathway.

Through this program, students develop essential skills while studying fascinating subjects alongside passionate faculty members. Career opportunities for graduates include roles in heritage conservation, museum curation, archaeological fieldwork, and education.
The curriculum examines the political, social, and economic frameworks of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Students also investigate fundamental archaeological inquiries across global regions, spanning from prehistoric eras through medieval times. Hands-on learning includes fieldwork and practical training with various methodologies to analyze artifacts, fossils, and historical remnants from diverse cultures and time periods. The program culminates with capstone courses where students apply their acquired knowledge to authentic research projects about ancient civilizations.
Alongside the Archaeology and Ancient History major, students can select a complementary minor or secondary major from the Bachelor of Arts curriculum.
